Playing with fire; being on fire; fiering up; adding fuel to the fire; to burn ourselves out; setting the world on fire...

If our language is filled with expressions that reflect the many facets of fire, and if it features so prominently in the myths and legends of every civilization, it is because fire has played a fundamental role throughout human history. At times a friend, providing warmth, light, and bringing people together around the hearth, and at others an enemy, symbolising devastation, destruction, and violence, it continues to inspire both fascination and fear.

Yet fire remains as terrifying and untameable as ever when it escapes our control. That is why research continues to advance, seeking new ways to prevent it, fight it, and protect us from its devastating effects.

Through large-scale immersive installations and a scenography that harnesses the beauty, power, and enchantment of fire, the exhibition explores humanity’s mastery of fire.
